17 May, 2022

Frontier Smart Technologies has become the first organisation certified by DTG Testing to pass the Core Technology tests in the latest ETSI DAB receiver specification - ETSI TS 103 461 v1.2.2. This became mandatory from April 2022.

The ETSI standard used as the technical basis of the Digital Radio Tick Mark was updated to v1.2.2 (from v1.1.1) in 2020. The Digital Radio Tick Mark indicates to consumers that devices are tested and approved to meet the UK Government agreed specification for digital radios are able to receive FM, DAB and DAB+ stations and is supported by the majority of digital radio manufacturers and retailers as well as the leading technology providers.

The changes relate to the ability to deliver alarm announcements and the ability to decode FIG type 2 labels and service following with ECC. Frontier’s Kino4 chipset / Siena module and DAB 7.1 SDK is the first certified by DTG Testing to meet these new requirements, and is available now to support manufacturers in transitioning new products to meet the updated specification that is not mandatory.
