Why Do Manufacturers Choose AURIA?

Developing connected audio products often means integrating multiple wireless technologies, streaming services and software platforms. AURIA simplifies this process by providing a single, pre-integrated solution that reduces engineering complexity and shortens development cycles.

Whether you're building smart speakers, smart radios or home audio systems, AURIA provides a scalable foundation alongside a flexible SDK and development environment, enabling manufacturers to customise features, accelerate development and bring connected audio products to market faster while supporting evolving wireless audio standards.

How Does AURIA Pioneer Connected Audio?

AURIA pioneers connected audio by combining Bluetooth LE Audio and Wi-Fi 6 in a single turnkey module. While traditional Bluetooth modules focus on short-range wireless audio, AURIA adds built-in Wi-Fi connectivity, enabling products to stream directly from online music services, support multi-room audio and deliver higher-quality, more reliable wireless performance.

By bringing Wi-Fi, Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast™ together, manufacturers can create products that seamlessly switch between Bluetooth and Wi-Fi listening, synchronise audio across multiple speakers and unlock new experiences such as audio broadcasting and device sharing. This gives brands the flexibility to develop everything from smart radios and wireless speakers to soundbars and home audio systems using one integrated platform.

AURIA FAQ

Wi-Fi audio uses wireless network connectivity to stream audio between devices. Compared with traditional Bluetooth connections, Wi-Fi audio can support longer ranges, higher bandwidth applications and connected experiences such as multi-room audio.

Connected Audio is a term refereeing to devices that can stream audio directly from the internet and provide advanced features such as multi-room. Using Wi-Fi, devices can connect and stream audio content from the Internet, which enables unlimited streaming without needing a battery powered mobile device to be always turned on and connected.

Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) Audio is the next generation of Bluetooth that is designed for audio. Central to the improvements is the new LC3 (Low Complexity Communication Codec) codec, which provides higher quality audio with less power consumption, meaning battery powered devices can play music for longer.

Frontier have developed the OKTIV app to allow super easy setup of AURIA. The app allows for AURIA based devices to be discovered with Bluetooth LE and then can connect to Wi-Fi with three easy steps. Once setup, AURIA based devices can be controlled with OKTIV.

OKTIV can be rebranded or manufacturers can develop their own apps using Frontier’s Application Programming Interface (API).

Additional, audio streaming apps like Spotify, Apple Music and Tidal Connect can directly play audio on AURIA.

AURIA supports over 100,000 internet radio streams.

Using Frontier ConnectedAudioKit, which is a package of documentation and example code to explain how manufacturers can create a custom app or integrate AURIA into a product using a third-party Microcontroller Unit (MCU) that communicates directly and runs functions on AURIA.

A stream kit is available from Frontier – this includes a reference platform, which is a fully working and certified implementation of a wireless speaker based on AURIA. Contact Frontier to learn more.
